Community Member Expectations: -Arrive at school prior to start time, ready to engage in the day's learning. Lateness messages disrespect for peers and faculty members and as such is a violation of our core principles. -Use supportive and respectful language at all times. This includes expressing objection, concern, and disagreement with care. -Cell phones, mp3 players, or other electronic devices, are not allowed on campus grounds as per the Chancellor's Regulations. -Respect the school's facilities, as well as other individuals' property. *Students are welcome in the building any time that adults are present, provided that they continue to respect the institution and its community guidelines. Discipline Policy Educational progress at the High School for Language and Diplomacy is at the core of our mission, and the Freedom to Learn is among our highest guiding principles. Emergency Procedures Our school will follow the Emergency Procedures laid out by the DOE, including evacuation plans, schedule alteration, and contact with parents/guardians. The adopted Safety Plan at our school will be followed at all times, with regular Fire Drills. Students will report problems to an adult as soon as possible. This is part of our principle of taking care of our community. Storm Procedures In the event of stormy weather conditions, the Chancellor decides whether to close or delay the opening of schools. For further information, please listen to broadcasts on stations such as WCBS (880 AM), WINS (1010 AM), WXLX (620 AM), WLIB (1190 AM), WADO (1280 AM), WKDM (1380 AM), WSKQ (97.9 FM), WBLS (107.5 FM) and “NY1” (Channel 1 on cable television) which will announce school delays or closings as close to 6 a.m. as possible. If a storm gets worse during the school day, the Chancellor will contact all superintendants and radio and television media and bus services of an earlier dismissal schedule. If the Chancellor announces a two-hour delayed school opening, staff will report as follows: Staff who are scheduled to report at 7:50 a.m. will report at 9:50 a.m. Staff who are scheduled to report at 8:39 a.m. will report at 10:39 a.m. |
